Mount Rushmore - ameriacn presidents sculpture

http://the-american-history.blogspot.com/
Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a sculpture engraved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore near Keystone, South Dakota, in the United States. Sculpted by Gutzon Borglum and later on by his son Lincoln Borglum, Mount Rushmore features 60-foot sculpture of the heads of former United States presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The whole memorial covers 1,278.45 acres and is 5,725 feet above sea level. Borglum decisive the sculpture should have a further national focus, and chose the four presidents whose likenesses would be carved into the mountain.

After securing federal funding, building on the memorial began in 1927, and the presidents' faces were finished between 1934 and 1939. Upon Gutzon Borglum's death in March 1941, his son Lincoln Borglum took more construction. Though the primary concept called for each president to be depicted from head to waist, lack of funding enforced construction to end in October 1941. The U.S. National Park Service took control of the memorial in 1933, while it was still in construction, and control the memorial to the present day. It attracts around two million people annually.

Salmon P. Chase

Salmon Portland Chase was an American politician and jurist who provide as U.S. Senator from Ohio and the 23rd Governor of Ohio; as U.S. Treasury Secretary under President Abraham Lincoln; and as Chief Justice of the United States. In 1830, Chase moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he speedily gained a position of prominence at the bar. He published an annotate edition of the laws of Ohio which was long careful a standard. The death of his first wife in 1835, triggered Chase's religious reawakening and devotion to causes more aligned with his faith, including Abolition. He worked primarily with the American Sunday School Union and began defending fugitive slaves. At a time when public opinion in Cincinnati was conquered by Southern business connections, Chase, influenced probably by James G. Birney, associated himself with the anti-slavery movement. Andrew Johnson was served as the 17th President of the United States. Johnson presided over the rebuilding era of the United States in the four years after the American Civil War. He became the mainly prominent War Democrat from the South and supported Lincoln's military policies through the American Civil War of 1861–1865. In 1862, Lincoln selected Johnson military governor of occupied Tennessee. His conciliatory policies towards the South, his rush to reincorporate the former Confederate states back into the union, and his vetoes of civil rights bills embroiled him in a bitter argument with Radical Republicans. He did not identify with the two main parties although he did try for the Democratic nomination in 1868 and so while President he attempted to make a party of loyalists under the National Union label.
